One of the most important statements against the FETÖ's coup attempt was made by 1st Army Commander General Ümit Dündar. Connecting to the live broadcast of a private TV channel by phone, Dündar said that it was a small group that had carried out the coup attempt and necessary measures had been taken.

The 11th President of Turkey, Abdullah Gül, connected to the live broadcast of CNN Türk and reacted to the coup attempt. Calling on putschist soldiers with harsh statements, Gül placed emphasis on democracy and national will. Former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu also connected to a private TV channel and showed a strong reaction to the coup attempt.

After no news could be received from Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar and other commanders, Bülent Bostanoğlu phoned Fikri Işık, Minister of National Defense, at 01.17 a.m. and said, “As the command echelon, we never accept this attempt.” This statement was broadcasted on CNN Türk at 01.24 a.m.

Special Forces Commander Major General Zekai Aksakallı connected to NTV’s live broadcast at 01.49 a.m., explaining that there were martyrs and injured people in the coup attempt of the treacherous parallel network. He said they had gotten a grip on the situation.

F-16 fighter jets taking off from the Akıncı Military Base in Ankara carried out bomb attacks on police buildings at the command of putschist soldiers. Police units which resisted the coup attempt were among the state institutions that were targeted by coup plotters. First, putschist soldiers carried out a bomb attack on the Ankara Police Headquarters with F-16s at 11.18 p.m. Pilot Mustafa Özkan dropped the second bomb on the Ankara Police Headquarters at 01.08 a.m. at command of Staff Captain Mustafa Mete Kaygusuz.

Another place targeted by FETÖ-affiliated soldiers with fighter jets was the natural gas station of BAŞKENTGAZ. The bomb dropped only two meters away from the tubes in the station, preventing a disaster. A five-meter long and three-meter deep hole was formed in the region.

People poured onto the streets against the coup attempt across Turkey. Parliamentary Speaker İsmail Kahraman came to the Prime Ministerial Coordination Center where a decision was made to keep Parliament open. He called on deputies to come to Parliament against the coup attempt. After the General Assembly hall was opened, deputies from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), Republican People’s Party (CHP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) gathered under the chairmanship of Kahraman.

Kahraman connected to NTV’s live broadcast and said that he met with all parties’ group leaders one by one. He conveyed the message of unity and solidarity.

Transportation from the Anatolian side from the European side on the Bosporus Bridge was closed by coup-plotters in the first hours of the coup attempt. Upon President Erdoğan’s call, a great resistance against the coup-makers started on the bridge. Putschist soldiers opened fire on civilians and police officers who tried to prevent them at 01.40 a.m. A total of six civilians, including advertiser Erol Olçok and his 16-year-old son Abdullah Tayyip Olçok, were martyred in the first fire opened by coup plotters.

People who gathered in front of the airport prevented 580 commandos who had left the 11th Commando Brigade Command in the Çardak district of Denizli to go to Ankara. Just in case, 11 tons of fighter jet fuel in the Çardak Jet Base Airport Base Command were evacuated in a field in order to prevent fighter jets from refueling.

Putschist soldiers who tried to enter the Türk Telekom Directorate in Acıbadem, Kadıköy at 01.56 a.m. opened fire on shuttle buses passing by.

People prevented putschist soldiers from passing to the Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 01.59 a.m. Sergeant Ferhat Daş, who was in a tank that came to the airport, committed suicide there, saying “We are not traitors,” after the coup attempt which he heard from the public.

In the meantime, three out of five IT specialists who came to the Vodafone Arena by helicopters and a group of putschist soldiers entered the TRT Headquarters in Ulus in order to cut the TRT and Digiturk’s broadcasts.

A clash broke out between the police teams which were deployed on the TEM Highway, Mehmetçik Vakfı (Soldiers’ Foundation) and Tuzla Orhanlı tool booths and military high school students who were coming to Istanbul. One police officer and five civilians were martyred during the clash. One putschist lieutenant who was leading the students was killed during the clash, while 13 police officers and 23 civilians were injured.
