Aytekin Kuru

Aytekin Kuru was one of the 42 Special Operations Officers who was martyred at the Gölbaşı Special Operations Headquarters on the night of the July 15th coup attempt. His wife was able to identify his body from his wedding ring.

Aytekin had been a police officer for 21 years. He worked at the Ankara Police Headquarters Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch before he was appointed to the Special Operations Department, 15 days before the coup attempt.

His mother and wife were not able to receive any word from him until July 16th. The family went to Ankara on July 17th, they went to the Ankara Forensic Institute Morgue in the morning and started searching for his body.

His wife noticed a ring on the hand of one of the martyrs’ bodies when she went to the morgue. She had a nervous breakdown when she noticed that the ring belonged to her husband, after examining it closely. DNA samples were taken from Aytekin’s mother for testing. Kuru was buried in the Kozan district of Adana after the funeral.

The 42 year old martyr was the father of 14 year old Rabia Gizem and 5 year old Mehmet. The name Martyr Aytekin Kuru was given to an imam hatip middle school in his hometown.
