Police Chief Cüneyt Bursa came to his workplace in the Ankara Provincial Police Headquarters Smuggling Branch Directorate as soon as he heard about the coup attempt, and resisted putchists while in his police vest. FETÖ members, who didn’t succeed in the fight and saw that heroic police officers would not let them pass, bombed the police headquarters. Cüneyt was martyred in the bombing.
37 year old Police Chief Cüneyt Bursa was the father of 8 year old Ceylin and 2 month old Cüneyt. Bursa was buried in the Ankara Cimşit Cemetery.

Ceylin Bursa who stated that she knows her father is a martyr, "My father is a hero and will stay as a hero. My father did not die, he was martyred. My father became a hero. I want to be a police officer as well but not like a normal police like my father. I want to be a police with a horse. My father always took me riding horses.”
Ceylin stated that her 2 month old brother Cüneyt, resembles her father and that his father’s name will be in his brother. She also said that her brother will never know his father as he is too young and she will always tell him about her father. She went on to say that their father loved them very much and hugged them whenever he got back from work, “I will tell my brother that his father was a hero. I will take my time telling him.”
The name Martyr Cüneyt Bursa was given to an Anatolian imam hatip high school in Mudanya, Bursa.
