Faruk Demir, who had been a police officer for 24 years, had been working for the Special Operations Department since 1996. He was known to be a good sniper and experienced police officer.
He talked to his wife on the phone a couple of seconds before the bombing. His wife Semra Demir, who left special operations in 2005 and retired from Social Services in 2010, said the following about her husband, “I knew my husband from the police school. He joined the special operations force after me. We have been married for 21 years. We had known each other for 6 years before that.”
He had worked in terror regions for years
Retired police officer Semra, mother of 2, went to Gölbaşı as soon as she heard about the bombing attack, to find her husband. She found out after arriving that the injured were being taken to hospitals and there was a black out due to fighter jets flying above.
Semra had a DNA test with her son on July 16th after not being able to find her husband’s name on the first list. She received the news of her husband’s martyrdom at 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 17th.
Faruk worked in Diyarbakır for 8 years and had 2 children, ages 13 and 18. For his last task, he had worked in Nusaybin for 9 months.
The name Martyr Faruk Demir was given to an imam hatip high school in Söke, Aydın.
