Medet Ekizceli and his father-in-law, who he visited in Ankara during his annual leave, were martyred by putschists in their fight for democracy. His family searched for the bodies of the martyred for 2 days.
Medet wanted to go outside as soon as he heard about the coup attempt on July 15th but his family tried to stop him. However, his love for his country and nation would not allow him to stay inside.
He went into the streets with his father-in-law who was called to the Sincan Municiaplity, where he worked as a truck driver. Medet took his last breath on the road to the Presidential Complex.
He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance all alone, due to the chaos. His family was not able to find him for a couple of days. He had left his identity card and phone in the truck in which he was martyred, which made the identification of his body even more difficult.
Having learned that unidentified bodies were sent to the cold storage rooms of the municipality, his family was finally able to receive martyr’s autopsied body. His funeral was held in the Tepe Alagöz village of the district Kızılırmak, Çankırı on Sunday, July 17th.
After her husband’s death, Esra Ekizceli moved to Çankırı with her two children, ages 10 and 6.
The name of Kızılırmak Multi-curriculum Anatolian High School was changed to KIzılırmak Martyr Ekizceli Multi-curriculum Anatolian High School.
