Martyr Mesut Acu, who is from Ankara, wished to be a martyr in his Umrah visit he had 3 months before the coup attempt. Acu went out after the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and was martyred by putschists in Kızılay. He had not taken his phone with him that night. His body was identified by forensics two days later.
The 56 year old was a shoe manufacturer. He was a father of 2 daughters and 2 sons. Acu had an Umrah visit 3 months before the coup attempt with his mother and siblings. His son Anıl Acu said that the only prayer his father had said during the visit was that of martyrdom. His son describes his father as a down to earth man.
Mesut Acu rushed outside alone after the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. His family was unable to track the martyr down because he did not have his phone with him. Forensic officers gave the news of martyrdom to the family who had been waiting worriedly for 2 days. He died a heroic death after being the target of bullets fired by putschist soldiers in Kızılay. Acu’s body was buried in the Karşıyaka Graveyard on Sunday, July 17th.
