July 15 Coup Attempt Muhammed Oğuz Kılınç

Muhammed Oğuz Kılınç

Born in 1990, in Antalya, Muhammet Oğuz Kılınç was a brave police officer like his father. Kılınç, whose permanent station was İstanbul, was sent to the Ankara Police Department temporarily on the night of July 15.

Kılınç, who was called to duty again 20.00 after he returned home on July 15, obeyed the orders without thinking. He took guns out of the department and shared them with his colleagues. The martyr Kılınç didn’t want to fire at the soldiers at first, but they were putschists, not soldiers. Kılınç, who was severely wounded in the head, fell a martyr on the spot a while after he was hit.

In the beginning of 2016, he wanted to join the operations in the east of Turkey and wrote a letter of application with the love of his country in his heart. The martyr Kılınç, who was appointed to Van upon his petition, was looking forward to serving at his new station.

‘Father, what is a coup?’

Muhammet Oğuz had talked to his father 20 minutes before he fell a martyr, and hung up after he said, “I leave you to God’s protection.” Zeki Kılınç, who was a police officer for 29 years, said that his son was rewarded with martyrdom instead of him, and stated as following: “I fought in order for the flag to fly and for azans not to end, as a police officer and as an individual. I have another son aged 17. During the coup attempt, he asked me, ‘Father, what is a coup?’ When I explained to him, he said to me, ‘Never surrender, fight and fire if it’s necessary, father.’ While my son was fighting in Ankara, I was here on watch at the relevant institutions. If we want to live in this country, we should be able to give our lives when it’s necessary. I am now a veteran, and his martyrdom was met with pleasure. My son’s next home will definitely be heaven. His name is Muhammet Oğuz. I picked my children’s name deliberately.I have Mehmet Onur, also. And a Zeki Kılınç. I'm 53, I wanted to fall a martyr, but my son did, instead of me.”

Martyr police officer Muhammet Oğuz Kılınç’s letter, which he had written for his father, “I want to be a police officer like you.” was found in the wallet given to his family, after his death. His father and a police officer, Zeki Kılınç read his response aloud in front of his son’s grave.

The martyr Kılınç’s funeral prayer was held at the Ankara Kocatepe Mosque on July 17th, in the afternoon, and he was buried in his hometown of Antalya. Martyr Police Muhammet Oğuz’s name was given to the Altınova Police Department, and to an Anatolian Imam Hatip high school in Antalya.
