July 15 Coup Attempt Muzaffer Aydoğdu

Muzaffer Aydoğdu

Muzaffer Aydoğdu went out on to the streets after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call, on the night of the July 15th coup attempt. He said goodbye to his family and went to the General Staff building, climbed on top of the tanks used by the treacherous FETÖ soldiers and tried to stop the putschists. He was wounded with 4 bullets on the spot. Later on he became a martyr at the hospital.

Muzaffer was from Ankara and was married and had a daughter. At 35 years old, he made a living off driving. He had four brothers, 3 of whom were military officers and the 4th one worked at a textile company.

“I trust you with my family”

Muzaffer came to the General Staff building after saying goodbye to his daughter, his mother and his wife; he stood up in front of the tanks with a group of 25-30 people and was wounded by shots fired from the tanks. He was immediately taken to 29 Mayıs Hospital. On the way to the hospital in the ambulance, he said to his uncle’s grandson, “Take care of my children, I entrust my family to you.” He then drew his last breath at the hospital and became a martyr.

“My father became an angel”

Immediately after hearing President Erdoğan’s call, Muzaffer left his home saying, “We are not going to abandon our beautiful country to the inglorious.” His wife Fatma Aydoğdu spoke to Yeni Şafak about that night, “My husband came home around 21:00 that night, and he had his dinner. He was making phone calls and talking about work. He saw President Erdoğan’s call then he kissed his daughter and said, ‘I am going out. We cannot abandon our beautiful country to the inglorious. Pardon me and farewell’, and he left home. He went to say goodbye to his mother after leaving home and after she told him not to go, he replied, ‘Mother, don’t you hear the noise? If I, you or they don’t go out, then who will? He headed to the General Staff building after kissing his mother’s hands and jumped on a tank immediately after he arrived there, he disputed with a soldier coming out of the tank, shouting, ‘We will not abandon Turkey to you’, He went unconscious after the soldier fired four bullets at him. He passed away around 01:40. God loves him more than we do, so he took him by his side and gave him the honor of martyrdom. When my 4-year-old daughter says ‘my father is an angel now’, my heart it tears my heart apart. And sometimes she says, ‘Mom, my father must be hungry, let’s bring him some food’ and I tell her ‘God feeds him the best food’. I sacrificed my husband for the country, to the land, and to the flag.”

His older brother Zafer noted Muzaffer was the biggest helper of his mother and bedridden father, and added, “He would stop by his parents’ home and visit them every night.” His father was confined to his bed and Muzaffter would go visit him every day to deliver his prayers.

Martyr Muzaffer Aydoğdu was buried in Ankara on Sunday, July 17th.

Putschists wanting to seize the General Staff headquarters, staged a raid on the premises. As civilians poured down into the streets, they clashed with the on-duty soldiers and police officers. In order to thwart the people’s attempts to foil the coup, putschists rained bullets on the crowds from helicopters. Many citizens were martyred at the General Staff’s campus, where some of the longest and most intense clashes took place.
