Niyazi Ergüven

Niyazi Ergüven, who worked in the Ankara Gölbaşı Special Operations Department Headquarters, was martyred by the second bomb attack on the headquarters on the night of July 15th. The martyred police officer wanted to get married after his service in Ankara was completed.

Ergüven was the youngest child of his family. He worked as a police officer in the Ankara Gölbaşı Special Operations Department Headquarters. The 26 year old started his profession after graduating from the Police Vocational School in Niğde. Ergüven had worked in Erzurum, Diyarbakır, Sur, Şırnak and Urfa. He got injured while working in Diyarbakır and his last workplace was in Ankara.

Putschists targeted the Gölbaşı Department of Special Operations twice. Seventeen police were martyred in the first bombing, and 25 in the second bombing.

Ergüven, who was called to work on the night of July 15th, went to the headquarters as quickly as possible. He talked to his sister around midnight. He told his sister that he could not talk on the phone because of the things that were happening and that he would call her later. Ergüven turned off his phone and was unable to answer the calls from his family. Ergüven was martyred after the second bomb on the headquarters along with his friends. His brothers and uncle found him in the morgue of a hospital.

İsmet Ergüven, the martyr’s father, described his son as a faithful and friendly person. He said, “We are proud of him for being a martyr but it is sad, he was too young.”

Martyr Niyazi Ergüven was buried in Kahramanmaraş on Monday, July 18th.
