Rüstem Resul Perçin was only 17 years old when he saw the July 15 coup attempt on television. He rushed to Beştepe before waiting for the President’s call to the streets and became one of the youngest martyrs of the night after being shot by putschists.
Resul Perçin, his brother and uncle went to Beştepe after hearing the fake declaration on TRT. It had been only 15 minutes after they arrived Beştepe when he was martyred by putschists’ bullets. His uncle Mustafa Perçin wanted to take Resul to the hospital.
However, putschists threatened to shoot them and did not let him take Resul. Martyr’s uncle managed to take his nephew to the Turgut Özal hospital eventually. However, the hospital which was related to FETÖ did not admit Resul with the excuse of being too full. Resul then was taken to the Gazi hospital and martyred there.
“I can sacrifice my children for my country”
Resul Perçin who was an electrician always said “I will be a specialist sergant in the military and die a martyr’s death”. His uncle describes the most valuable thing he can remember regarding Resul: “Resul’s body smelled very good. I smelled that smell in two places. One was in Cemetery of the Shohada of Uhud and one was in Eyüp Sultan Mosque”.
Martyr’s father Necmi Perçin said “I have 6 children. I can sacrifice all of my children for my country. My son wanted to be a soldier in the East region of Turkey and die a martyr’s death. Nothing else matters when it is about the country”.
The name Martyr Rüstem Resul perçin was given to a Special Education Application Centre in Kırklareli.
