Sevda Güngör’s biggest dream was to become a police officer. However, she died a martyr before she could complete her first year, she was martyred during the attack on the Special Operations Department Headquarters on the night of the July 15th coup attempt.

Sevda decided to be a police officer after studying finance at university. She completed her first police task in Mersin and then moved to Ankara as a Special Operations Police Officer. On July 15th she went to her workplace immediately after hearing about the coup attempt. She became a martyr, like many of her colleagues after the bomb attack on the Gölbaşı Special Operations Department Headquarters.

Her family received the news of her martyrdom in the morning of Saturday, July 16th. She was buried in her hometown of Adana.

Sevda was only 26 years old and like becoming a police officer, she also had the dream of getting married. However, she died a martyr’s death before she reached this dream of hers.

Her dream was to be a police officer

Her father Mehmet, stated that he was close friends with his daughter, and that his daughter became a police officer after receiving a 6 months course, after she finished university. He continued with saying, “Sevda had wanted to be a police officer since middle school. She was very hardworking. She was appointed in Mersin after she completed the course. Then she became a special operations police officer. We hadn’t been able to see each other much during this process. I was going to visit her in 2 days if she had not been martyred.”

The name Martyr Sevda Güngör was given to a kindergarden in Adana.
