July 15 Coup Attempt Suat Aloğlu

Suat Aloğlu

Suat Aloğlu went into the streets on the call of President Erdoğan, alongside his close friends. Aloğlu went to Ulus with a car and then came to the General Staff headquarters on foot after joining a crowd walking under a flag and chanting, “God is the greatest.”

Aloğlu was martyred after being the target of bombs dropped by putschists. His nephews Ertuğrul Özlü and Erhan Çayır became ghazis after being injured.

“I’m going for our country”

His friends went along with Suat to a certain point, but they retreated when the terrorists started dropping bombs. Aloğlu told them, “You go wherever you want. I’m not going to let those bastards win. I’ll stay here.” Aloğlu led the crowd and was martyred by a bomb dropped on the headquarters’ yard, a few minutes after he had left his friends. His family searched many hospitals and eventually found Suat’s wounded body in the morgue of the Ankara Numune Hospital.

Fatma Aloğlu, his 64 year old mother, said that her son was watching the news and went outside after hearing President Erdoğan’s call. As he was going outside, he told her, “I’m leaving mom. The whole of Turkey is awake. I can’t stay in this house. I’m going for our country, for you. Pray for me.”

The martyr’s brother, Fuat Aloğlu, also said that he called his brother a short time after he left the house, and added, “My brother said, ‘There’s no mourning after this. I’m not leaving this place to anyone,’ we heard about his martyrdom 10 minutes later.”
