July 15 Coup Attempt Timur Aktemur

Timur Aktemur

Timur Aktemur decided to go to the Bosphorus Bridge on the night of July 15th, as soon as he heard about the traitorous coup attempt. He said to his wife, “Give me my white shirt. If I get blood on it, it will be like our flag.” Aktemur was shot and martyred by putschist traitors.

In the first hours of the coup attempt, Aktemur’s father called him and said, “Son, it is bad out there. Don’t go out.” However, Aktemur decided not to listen to his father upon the call of President Erdoğan. He told his wife, “Give me my white shirt. If I get blood on it, it will be like our flag.” He wore his white shirt and went to Kısıklı. When his friends said that they were going to go to Bosphorus Bridge, Timur went with them. Aktemur was martyred in the shooting in front of the toll booths at 01:44 AM.

He was a good carpenter

When his brother Ergin Aktemur tried reaching him on the phone, a stranger answered, “He was shot, but don’t worry we sent him to the Anatolian side in a private vehicle.” Ergin Aktemur searched all the hospitals. It wasn’t until the morning after that he learned that his brother was injured but he was not able to find his brother. He heard his brother’s name in the announcement made by an ambulance as he was returning from the Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital at 07:30 AM. Ergin Aktemur first looked for his brother in the hospital’s morgue, but they told him his brother’s body was sent to another place. His family found Aktemur in the Forensic Medicine Morgue and buried him in the Ihlamurkuyu Graveyard after the funeral.

The 36 year old Timur Aktemur was married, with 3 children
The name of martyr Timur Aktemur was given to an Anatolian Imam Hatip high school in Bahçelievler, Istanbul.
