Accompanied by tanks taken from the Habibler Topkule Barracks, putschists started moving following the directives of putschist Commander Major Murat Çelebioğlu, who order them “to not allow even a single police officer out of Bayrampaşa.” Upon arriving in front of the Security Directorate, the traitors first stopped the traffic, then occupying the Riot Police Branch Directorate, they blocked all entrance and exit points using tanks. Using their bodies as shields, civilians fought the traitors who opened fire on them until the morning hours.

On the same day, Ümit’s older brother Aydın had had a traffic accident, and spent the night at the hospital. Returning home at 23:00, Aydın received the news of his brother’s martyrdom from one of his friends.

20 Year old Ümit, who loved motorcycles and travelling, was buried in the Edirnekapı Martyr’s Cemetery on Sunday, July 17th.
