The EU crisis: A crisis of civilization

The referendum expected to take place in the UK on June 23 to decide on whether to leave the European Union or stay is sailing close to the wind. Although many discussions on the ineffectiveness of the EU have been held for the past few years, no one was expecting such a dramatic move. These discussions indicate that European civilization is going through a crisis. French sociologist Edgar Morin and professor in philosophy of science Mauro Ceruti discuss this crisis in their book, “Notre Europe, Décomposition ou métamorphose?” According to the book, Europe is no longer the center of the world, but instead has been pushed to the shores of history.
