Two people have been killed in a landslide near the southern Vietnamese resort city of Nha Trang, in the latest in a series of deadly flood-related disasters to strike the region.
A landslide triggered in the early hours of Tuesday morning buried six houses on the outskirts of Nha Trang, killing an elderly woman and a four-year-old boy, reported the VN Express news site.
Another 10 people were reported injured as rescue workers spent the morning searching the rubble for survivors.
Central and southern Vietnam have been struck with unseasonably strong rains in recent months, with more than 100 people killed in flooding since October according to government statistics.
The total damage was estimated at $37.4 million by the Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, reported the state-run Vietnam News Agency on Sunday.
The government reported 17 people killed between December 12 and 16 alone.
Around 112,000 houses were reportedly under water while 10,000 hectares of rice crops were also damaged, according to government statistics.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called for relief aid to be delivered “at any cost" to the affected regions during a Saturday online meeting discussing measures to combat the damage.
