The value of Bitcoin crossed the $12,000 threshold on Wednesday to mark a record high. It was changing hands at $12,580.52 at 1000GMT.
Bitcoin's market capitalization now stands at $210 billion.
The currency soared after Friday's announcement by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission that it would allow CME Group Inc and CBOE Global Markets to list bitcoin futures.
The value of the most popular cryptocurrency in the world rose by 1,100 percent year-to-date.
