Turkish Airlines has closed out a turbulent year by hitting a 2% global market share, up from 1.9% at the beginning of 2016, according to a statement made by a top airline executive.

Speaking to Habertürk, İlker Aycı, the airline’s chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, underscored the fact that the airline managed to hit a 2% global market share despite facing unexpected crises in 2016, which continues Turkish Airlines’ trend of upward growth for the 15th conesecutive year.

Stressing the importance of transit travelers to Turkish Airlines, Aycı said that the carrier plans to hand out laptops to business-class passengers for the duration of their flights, adding that "[the electronics ban] will not last for long."

The increase in the global carrier’s market share comes in spite of the airline having to deal with unprecedented challenges in 2016, chief among which was an electronics ban imposed by the U.S. and Britain on airports in several Muslim-majority countries, including Istanbul’s Atatürk International Airport.
