96 killed in road accidents across Turkey during Eid al-Adha holiday

Dozens die and hundreds are wounded in numerous nationwide accidents after millions of holiday makers get behind the wheel to reach coastal towns or hometowns

Eid al-Adha holiday in Turkey ended in pain and sorrow for numerous families when they lost their beloved ones in deadly accidents, said a report.



The report said 96 people were killed and 465 others were injured in a total of 115 accidents, which happened across the country in the first seven days of Eid al-Adha holiday, that begins on Friday, Sept. 18, at noon, four days before the Feast-of Sacrifice.



Holiday makers crawled on the crowded motorways to spend the holiday with their families, taking advantage of the nine-day-long festive holiday. There were also numerous vacationers travelling by plane, on their way for coastal towns in the South.



13 accidents killed 13 and left 38 injured on Saturday, Sep. 19. The number of accidents on Turkey's roads almost doubled the next day, Sunday, Sep. 20, when 27 accidents claimed 21 lives and wounded 56 others.



On Sept. 21 and 22, Monday and Tuesday, a total of nine people died in 39 accidents, which left 191 others injured.



On the eve of the Feast of Sacrifice, on Wednesday, Sep. 23, eight were killed and 71 others sustained injuries in 13 accidents, which occurred across the country, which was preparing to mark one of two major holidays on the Islamic calendar.



A total of 12 accidents were reported along with eight victims and 58 survivors on the first day of the feast, on Thursday, Sep. 24. 11 accidents transpired on the second day of the festival, on Friday, Sep. 25, which left 21 people dead and 67 others injured.



Friday's toll only includes the reports which were circulated until 5 p.m. on that day.
