Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has endearingly instructed a mother of Azeri origin to teach her child Turkish, after the boy approached him with a piece of paper.
Upon learning that the boy doesn’t speak Turkish after asking him in Azerbaijani “Are you a Turk or an Iranian?,” Khamenei, who is of Azeri descent himself, turned to the mother who responded by saying that her son was Turkish but that he could not speak any Turkic languages.
Khamenei then responded by saying “He can learn Farsi at school and on the street. Teach him Turkish at home. He should know both.”
