Syrian boy has not grown in three years

A 10-year-old Syrian boy living in Istanbul has not grown in three years; father calls on EU to extend helping hand for his child's medical treatment

Muhammed Diyarbakırlı, aged 10, has had Fanconi syndrome, cystinosis, chronic renal failure and the delay developments related to these diseases for seven years.



Father Mustafa Diyarbakırlı said his son lost his mother when he was two-years old. “While Muhammed was three years old he had difficulties with urination. We visited many doctors in Syria and finally he was diagnosed with renal impairment," father said.



He said the Muhammed cannot live a normal life now. “My son's bones started melting, his eyesight is weak," he added.



The father said his son needs medications. “These drugs are not available in Turkey. Even if they were, they are so much expensive here," the father said, and added that if he could treat his son in Canada, UK, France or Germany, “it could save his life."



He called on European Union member countries to accept him and help his child to live. “Please help to save my child," he said.



Mustafa said he has noplace to live in Istanbul. He could not go to camps because the boy needs medical care. “I live my life in either hospitals' corridors or some familiar friends' houses. I don't have a place to live," he added.
