Yeni Şafak columnist Akif Emre dies of heart attack at age 60

One of Yeni Şafak's founders and contributing columnist Akif Emre passed away at age 60 of a heart attack in his office in Istanbul on Tuesday.

Emre, who led a distinguished career in journalism and publishing, collapsed in his Beşiktaş office at ‘Haberiyat.com’, an online publication company where he served as a chief executive editor.

He suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after taking part in a meeting at his office.

Emre passed away despite medical teams battling for 40 minutes to save him.

The late Emre, who regularly contributed columns to Yeni Şafak, at one time served in the publication’s executive editing administration after its founding.

Akif Emre served as chief editor to several distinguished multi-volume reference books on Islamic and Ottoman history. He was also a recognized TV personality and reporter.
