Twenty-six Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists were killed Thursday in the aftermath of ongoing operations carried out by Turkish security forces in the southeast province of Şırnak, Turkey; according to a statement from the governorship.

The operation was carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces’ 23rd Gendarmerie Border Division Command in the rural Şırnak region of Bestler-Dereler, according to the same statement.

Security forces determined the locations of members of the PKK in the Nalaguva hill, 8 of whom were targeted in the operation, bringing the total number of terrorists neutralized in the past 24 hours to 26.

Among the PKK terrorists neutralized was the Iranian-origin front leader of the Bestler Dereler region, who went by the name nom de guerre "Soro".

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU. It has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years, during which more than 40,000 people have lost their lives.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU, resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
