18 PKK members killed, 24 captured in southeastern towns of Sur and Cizre

The Turkish military said that 18 more members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) had been killed and 24 terrorists captured in southeastern Turkey.



Two of the total 18 terrorists were killed in Sur town of Diyarbakır province, while the remaining 16 were killed in Cizre town of Şırnak province.



With the recent killings, the total number of terrorists killed in Sur reached 70; while it exceed 237 in Cizre.



A barricade was removed, an improvised explosive was destroyed and arsenal seized in Sur town, while 10 barricades were removed and six improvised explosives were destroyed in Cizre.



Also, in Silopi 45 improvised explosives were destroyed while a Kalashnikov rifle, a Kalashnikov rifle magazine, 30 Kalashnikov rifle cartridge, three guns, 17 shotgun cartridges, one shotgun, a pistol, a pistol magazine, 46 pistol cartridge, a gas mask, and battery used in improvised explosive production were seized.



Previously on Friday, the military captured 58 PKK terrorists were captured in Silopi.



Thousands killed in 2015


Turkey has been fighting against the PKK to rescue cities from militants by declaring curfews and launching operations in the region.



The PKK – considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU – resumed its armed campaign in late July.



More than 200 members of the security forces were martyred and over 3,100 PKK terrorists were killed in 2015 alone.
