A total of 38 foreign nationals, including women and children, were detained Sunday in the southeastern Turkish province of Adana for allegedly seeking to cross into Syria to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Ahead of the G-20 summit on November 15-16 in the Mediterranean province of Antalya, Turkey has increased security measures, conducting operations against terror suspects in several cities.

Counter-terror units of the Adana Police Department launched an operation on a house in the Bahçeşehir neighborhood of Seyhan district after getting a tipoff that some ISIL recruits were boarding there.

The police units detained a total of 38 foreign nationals including 14 Azerbaijanis, seven Indonesians, five Iraqis and five Kirghiz, two Tajiks, three Iranians and two Afghans.

Ten of the detainees were women and 15 were children, the police said.

All of the suspects are believed to have entered Turkey to cross the Turkish border and join ISIL, according to security sources.

The suspects will be transferred to the immigration authorities, after which they will likely be deported.

Meanwhile, two Turkish citizens were also arrested for aiding and abetting the suspected terrorists.
