A public prosecutor ordered on Friday the arrest of seven suspects, including Turkey’s Aeronautical Association's president, three days after the police searched his office and home upon claims that confidential information was leaked.
Seven out of 10 suspects, accused of leaking information about the design of THK's aviation project, were brought before the Criminal Court of Peace on duty for their arrest.
Ali Alper Saylan, a prosecutor at the Bureau for Investigation of Smuggling and Financial Crimes at Ankara’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, ordered the arrest of seven suspects and released the remaining three after they testified.
The officials in THK, including THK President Osman Yıldırım, are accused of leaking confidential information over Türkkuşu, a project for a locally-made light sport plane, or LSA, manufactured under the non-profit organization.
The investigation had been prompted after confidential designs of the plane were leaked on social media. The security officials confiscated some computers and hard drives from Yıldırım’s house and his office at THK.
Police officers from the Financial Crimes Unit raided the association’s main office and Gökçen Aviation, a research company affiliated with THK, to collect evidence required to finding the person or people, who leaked the confidential information about the aircraft.
