Operations continue in region

As the curfew in Diyarbakır's Sur district is in its 26th day, Turkish security forces continue the operation to secure public order and safety in the area.

Sur is about 900 kilometers southeast of Turkish capital Ankara, and about 1,500 kilometers from Istanbul.

Following the recent terror activiies of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, who dug ditches, planted roadside mines, vandalized public buildings, including hospitals, schools and libraries, and kidnapped children, Turkey launched a wide range “sweeping operation" to purge the area of terrorists.

Clashes between security units and PKK terrorists is reportedly ongoing as civilians are prevented from entering the area.
