Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım announced on Friday that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would join the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party on May 2.
"As a result of the people's votes in the April 16 referendum results, the president will rejoin our party during our meeting on May 2," said the prime minister.
"The AK Party will hold an extraordinary council meeting on May 22."
One of the changes brought about by Turkey's landmark referendum was the amendment stating that the president could maintain ties to a political party.
