A funeral has been held in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakır for the soldiers killed in the Sur district of the province when Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants detonated a planted bomb during a Turkish military search and sweep operation.

Diyarbakır Governor Huseyin Aksoy, the Chief Public Prosecutor of Ramazan Solmaz, the Police Chief Adnan Taşdan and a large number of representatives of non-governmental organizations and citizens attended the ceremony.

A joint force of military and police has been conducting anti-terror operations in some district of the country's southeast, especially Sur, Cizre and Silopi, as PKK militants intensified their terror activities and caused major losses in the area.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan vowed to clean the region of terror organizations and stated in his new year message that the operation will continue in 2016 with the same determination.

The operations left 3,100 PKK terrorists killed and 200 soldiers martyred in 2015 alone.
