Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban held a joint news conference.

PM Yıldırım, in response to a question regarding the negotiation on membership to EU, said “We have an old saying in Turkish: ‘Too much whims make a lover bored.’ The European Union had better speed up the process.”

Hungarian PM Orban said “The EU and Europe needs Turkey.”

“We have rooted ties with Hungary. Hungary supported [us] in the mornıng of July 16, right after July 15’s coup attempt. As two countries, we have decided to continue the high-level visits henceforth. Although we do not share a border, we consider Hungary as our neighbor. We have many sister cities, which we would like to improve,” said Yıldırım.

“Hungary has 11 Nobel-winning scientists. We can cooperate in science, as well. We can produce common projects with Hungary in the areas of youth and sports.”

In the joint news conference, Hungary's Prime Minister Orban noted: “I have been to Turkey four years ago. There have been many changes in Turkey in four years. As Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım noted, Turks and Hungarians share a strong bond. Hungary also has the tradition of bathhouses, and the bathhouse that I visit is named ‘Kerim Paşa’. Our histories are intertwined. I feel like home here. Diplomacy has key issues, too. Hungary and Turkey are determined members of NATO. Turkey is one of Europe’s significant allies. I would like to thank Prime Minister Yıldırım for Turkey’s efforts in international struggle. Turkey’s stability is for the benefit of Europe.

I thanked Turkey for its efforts in counterterrorism and counter-migration in Europe. Turkey’s benefit is also in the interest of Hungary and Europe. We cooperate with Turkey at international forums."
