One Turkish soldier was killed after a land mine exploded during a military operation in the eastern province of Kars on Saturday.

According to Kars Governor Günay Özdemir, the blast occurred while the security forces were sweeping mines suspected to have been planted by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, terrorists.

The governor said the security forces were conducting the mine sweeping operation in Kağızman area where around 25 suspected PKK terrorists set ablaze around 20 vehicles earlier in the day.

Turkish security forces have repeatedly been bombing the PKK targets in Iraq in the past week, that killed more than 260 militants and injured around 400, including the elder brother of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, or HDP, co-leader Selahattin Demirtaş.

The Turkish government stated that the recent terror attacks by the PKK towards its security officials, killing dozens, forced Turkish Armed Forces to take a hard line against the terror groups.
