Eight soldiers were injured in a terrorist attack in the south-eastern province of Diyarbakır, the Turkish military said.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attacked a group of soldiers who were taking part in the ongoing sweeping operation in the province's Sur town on Friday, the General Staff said on its official site.

The attack left eight troops injured, including one seriously. The injured soldiers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment just after the incident.

The terminally-injured soldier died of his wounds at 1 am on Saturday despite frantic efforts by medics at the intensive care service, the army said. The remaining seven soldiers are still in the hospital for further treatment.

The sweeping operation is still underway in the southeastern town.

Turkish government says operations against the PKK will continue until it lays down weapons and withdraws from Turkish soil.

Curfews have been imposed in several southeastern towns to clear these areas of PKK terrorists.
