The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) opened fire on a passenger plane en route to eastern province of Diyarbakır on December 22. The harassment fire was noticed by the control tower which alerted the pilots to change their route and land safely.
The plane was targeted with harassment fire after first being harassed by PKK terrorists' lasers.
No damage was determined during the examination of the plane over the incident.
"PKK terrorists have been firing on passenger planes for a while," security sources said.
Security measures in eastern Turkey have been ramped up to prevent attacks targeting civilians in regions where curfews were declared and operations conducted against the PKK.
The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, NATO, the US, and the EU, has been threatening the security of civilians and terrorizing the region.
