A reconnaissance ship belonging to the Russian Navy crashed into a cargo ship before sinking 18 miles (29 km) from the village of Kilyos on the Black Sea coast just north of Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday.

The Istanbul coast guard said all the crew members of the ‘Liman,’ a 1,560-ton reconnaissance ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, have been rescued.

The reconnaissance ship was mostly unarmed, but carries a radar station, a hydroacoustic detector and other reconnaissance equipment needed to track surface ships and submarines.

Reports indicate that the Russian ship is sinking.

The cargo ship was carrying livestock.
