Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdğan said the world is accepting Turkey's theory on Syria that a no-fly zone is crucial to save civilians.
Speaking to the reporters on his plane returning from New York, Erdoğan said, “They have come around to our view.”
His remarks came days after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called for all planes to be grounded in key areas of Syria.
The West has come around to the point Turkey has been insisting for more than three years, Erdoğan said.
He added, “The is the conclusion they will reach. There is no other option. These are the topics we have been discussing for about more than three years."
He also touched on the operation to liberate the Syrian city of Raqqa from the Daesh terrorist organization.
Turkey wants to join the operation as Operation Euphrates Shield backed by the Turkish military is running successfully, he added.
"Our foreign minister and military authorities are in talks with the United States discussing the matter of Raqqa. We told them our conditions," the Turkish president said.
"Taking a joint step is important for us," he told reporters. "If the United States does not get the [Democratic Union Party] PYD and [its armed wing, the People's Protection Units] YPG involved in this business, we can fight this battle together with the United States."
President Erdoğan said that thus far Turkey has demonstrated "the most effective struggle against Daesh, despite the disinformation."
Ankara has clarified earlier that Turkey would not be a part of the operation if the PYD/PKK terrorist group joins the fight.
Turkey also criticized its ally, the U.S., for supporting the terrorist group and providing them with weapons.
Erdoğan said he asked U.S. Vice President Joe Biden about weapons shipments to Kurds and that Biden said he was not aware of any such deliveries.
