Two terrorists were killed in operations against the PKK terrorist group in Turkey's southeastern Diyarbakir province last month, according to an official statement Thursday.

The statement from the Diyarbakir governor's office said security forces launched 544 operations against the PKK in February -- with the aim of destroying its shelters, warehouses and anti-aircraft positions, and gathering evidence on links between the group and suspects involved in the production and trade of illegal drugs.

Of the 347 suspects taken into custody during anti-terror operations, 53 were remanded in custody.

Security forces seized two rifles, five pistols, seven shotguns, 20 chargers, 129 cartridges, six grenades and 74 improvised explosive devices.

More than 200 kilograms (441 pounds) of ammonium nitrate -- a component used in explosives -- and 49 propane cylinders were also confiscated.

During 481 operations against smuggling and organized crime, 525 suspects were detained and 53 of them remanded in custody.

Over 5,000 kilograms of solid hashish, 3,500 kilograms powdered hashish, 550,000 smuggled cigarettes packages and 1,100 smuggled mobile phone units were also recovered.

During area control operations, more than 2,100 wanted persons sought for various crimes were captured.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United State, and European Union -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
