Days after the recent wave of terror attacks targeting the southern border region, Turkey put up a concrete wall in the Reyhanlı district of the southern province of Hatay.

The construction of the wall in the Bükülmez neighborhood of the district was a cooperation between the Hatay Governorate and the Land Force's 2nd Border Regimental Command.

The two-meter-wide concrete blocks weighing 7 tons each are being aligned on the border, just across from Atme town in Syria, using cranes.

Authorities expect the wall that will stretch eight kilometers to be completed soon.

In recent days, Turkish security forces had taken a number of extra measures to prevent illegal crossings into Syria and Iraq.

A 365-kilometer ditch to stop vehicle crossings, a 70-km rampart and a concrete wall stretching for seven kms are among the border security measures, as well as a 22- km accordion barrier.

The authorities also renewed a 145-km wire fence and improved lighting and roads along a 270-km stretch across the border with Syria.
