The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) neutralized 16 Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists on Saturday in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır in the context of the ongoing operations against the terror organization in the region, according to official sources.

The successful operation was carried out in Diyarbakır’s Kulp by Gendarmerie teams as part of the ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the region.

Among the neutralized terrorists were two PKK officials that were included on the grey most wanted list issued by the Turkish Interior Ministry. One of the two was injured during the operation and the other was captured alive.

The ministry’s most wanted list is divided into five color-coded categories with red designated as the most wanted, followed by blue, green, orange and grey.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.

The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.

On Friday, three PKK terrorists were killed in southeastern Turkey, according to a statement issued by Diyarbakir provincial governor's office.

The terrorists were killed late Thursday in Hazro district's Kirmatas village during an exchange of fire between security forces and PKK terrorists. A suspected PKK collaborator was apprehended, the statement added.

Terrorist Tanis Memis, the perpetrator of the martyred specialist gendarmerie officer Mehmet Kizilca in October, was among those killed.
