Nearly 20 officers including police chiefs were detained on Tuesday in the southern province of Mersin, after an investigation was launched over the claims of illegal wiretapping by the 'parallel state'.
The operations were held simultaneously early Tuesday morning by Mersin police headquarters against police officers, who faced warrants of detention into the investigation.
A majority of the detainees, allegedly affiliated with the parallel gang, were based in the intelligence unit in the Mersin police HQ. The suspects also included some officers who are based in other provinces.
