Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has also chimed in on calling upon the United States (U.S.) to extradite Fetullah Gülen, the plotter of the bloody July 15 failed coup attempt, which targeted the democratically-elected government and took the lives of 246 people.

The opposition leader's announcement, has turned the call for the U.S. to return Gülen to Turkey into a truly bipartisan matter, re enforcing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's original call.

"If Gülen is regarded as the main person responsible for the coup attempt and he wants to be acquitted, he must come to Turkey go on trial to be held in an independent court," Kılıçdaroğlu said.

He said CHP is pleased to see Turkey's extradition request and the expected visit of Turkish ministers to discuss Gülen's extradition process.

"As political parties, we have some differences of opinion. But we must all work together to promote democracy and meritocracy in Turkey" Kılıçdaroğlu added.

Previously, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that Turkey is possibly to achieve result over its request from the United States of the extradition of Fetullah Gülen.

"Maybe the U.S. couldn't understand how dangerous this group is, because Gülen is living in Pennsylvania. But after this terrorist attack, they must understand; he is the head of a terrorist organization," Çavuşoğlu said.

The discussion began with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's calls for the U.S. to hand over the leader of the terrorist FET/PDY (Gülenist Terrorist Organization/ Parallel State Structure) group.

Fetullah Gülen, who is living in the northeastern U.S. state of Pennsylvania, is indicated to be responsible for the coup attempt of July 15, in which 246 people, including a large number of civilians, were martyred.

Gülen has been pursuing a long-running campaign to overthrow the government through infiltrating the Turkish state, particularly the military, police and judiciary, forming the so-called “parallel state."
