Officials said 40 people were detained in a recent police crackdown on supporters of exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen, who is wanted on terror charges.

Detainees are said to have funded the Gülenist Terror Organization, also known as the parallel state. The raids were conducted across seven provinces after Edirne chief prosecutor's office issued warrants for dozens, including businessmen and retired military officials.

Suspects are accused of being member of the Gülenist Terror Organization, attempting to prevent government from carrying out its duties in part or in whole and conducting fraud through exploiting religion.

They were taken to the city police department to be questioned after undergoing medical examinations.

Police raids are underway as the investigation continues.
