Twelve people were wounded in a bomb attack on a police vehicle in Turkey's southern Mersin province on Tuesday.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Police vehicles, including transport buses, are frequent targets for Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) terrorists.

Ambulances, police and fire trucks were dispatched to the site of the attack.

Mersin Mayor Burhanettin Kocamaz said the attack took place on the street where the local governor's office is located. He added that the police vehicle was moving at the time of the attack.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.

The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
