Carter's visit follows some recent high-level foreign officials' visit to the base as top air force officials from Turkey, US, Spain and Qatar met there yesterday to discuss air and ground security in the region.

Gen. Paul J. Selva, 10th Vice Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently visited the airbase, where the 39th Tactical Group of the United States Air Force (USAF) is based, as part of Operation Inherent Resolve against Daesh targets both in Iraq and Syria.

Germany was the latest country to send two Tornado reconnaissance jets as well as a military transport aircraft to the base last week. The Merkel government also announced that it would send four more Tornado surveillance planes to Incirlik airbase soon.
