A catastrophically powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, April 25, 2015, causing extensive destruction and loss of thousands of lives. Amid so much destruction many of the Kathmandu's historical sites were reduced to rubble by the most severe earthquake to hit Nepal in more than 80 years. Four of the historical sites deemed by UNESCO to be World Heritage Sites were badly damaged by the earthquake.
