Turkish rider Kenan Sofuoglu has won his fourth Supersport World Championship with one race to spare, after finishing second at the 11-lap Magny-Cours race in France on Sunday.

Sofuoğlu gathered 213 points, 28 more than Patrick Jacobsen of the U.S., and was declared champion one week ahead of the season finale.

The 31-year old had won the first two titles with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda, in 2007 and 2010. Later, he became a Kawasaki rider in 2012 and was crowned the third title the very same year. This is the second world title for him on Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R.

“I wanted to win the championship for my son Hamza," Sofuoğlu said after the race. Hamza was four months old when he died in July after suffering brain hemorrhage in May.

Kenan Sofuoğlu is the only racer to triumph four times in the Supersport World Championship.
