Trump announced his decision despite widespread international opposition to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Wednesday. Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh called on Palestinians to resist the move, saying: “We call on the Palestinian people to take to the streets on Friday to launch a new Intifada with a view to defending Jerusalem."
