A Greek football match was delayed on Friday when players staged a sit-down protest in a moving tribute to refugees who have lost their lives trying to reach Greece by sea. All the players and their coaches remained seated for the first two minutes of the match, an action taken in protest of the treatment of refugees fleeing from war-torn countries like Syria by the Greek government. The protest followed recent tragedies in which dozens of refugees died as they attempted to reach Europe through Greece. More than 1 million refugees and migrants came to the European Union in 2015, while almost 3,700 died or went missing during the journey, according to the figures of the International Organization for Migration. Refugees often attempt to enter Europe through Greece.
