Greek daily To Vima, in a first, distributed copies of the Noble Quran to its readers.

The newspaper presented the Greek version of the Quran free of charge as part of its campaign to gift to its readers a different holy book each week.

The religion in Greece is dominated by the Greek Orthodox Church, which is within the larger communion of the Eastern Orthodox Church. It represents the majority of the population and is constitutionally recognized as the "prevailing religion" of Greece.

Religions with smaller numbers of followers include Islam, Catholicism, Evangelicalism, Hellenic Paganism and Hinduism.

The number of followers of Islam in Greece is estimated to be at 97,604 people or a mere 0.95 percent of the total population, according to the 1991 census. The number of immigrant Muslims are estimated at between 200,000 and 300,000.
