Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf accused neighbouring Eritrea on Friday of occupying disputed territory along their border after Qatar withdrew peacekeepers.

"Qatari peacekeepers withdrew on June 12 and 13. On the same day there were Eritrean military movements on the mountain. They are now in full control of Dumeira Mountain and Dumeira Island," he told Reuters, referring to areas the neighbours both claim.

Qatar has withdrawn its troops from the border between Djibouti and Eritrea, where the Gulf state has been acting as mediator in a border dispute, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
