Lawmakers from 42 Asian nations have declared the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the group blamed for the July 15 defeated coup in Turkey, a terrorist organization.

Turkish Deputy Parliament Speaker Ahmet Aydin said Thursday that FETÖ was designated a terrorist organization in the final declaration of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly's (APA) 9th Plenary Session held in Cambodia's Siem Reap province.

Led by U.S.-based Fetullah Gülen, FETÖ orchestrated Turkey's July 15 coup plot as well it has been behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through infiltrating Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and the judiciary.

The July 15 defeated coup left 248 martyred and nearly 2,200 wounded.

The APA gathering, which Aydin attended, concludes on Friday.

The APA, endeavoring to create an Asian parliament like the European one, has 42 member countries among which are China, Russia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia and so on. Sixteen other countries like Japan and Qatar retain the observer status.

Within the context of the Asian opening, frustrated by the West, Turkey's engagement with Asian countries has recently deepened. After gaining the chairman status for the Energy Club of the Shanghai Organization for 2017, Turkey has also been chosen the chairman for the APA.

In the session in Cambodia on Wednesday, Turkey has been elected the chairman of APA, which is attributed great importance by countries like Russia, China and India, for two-year period.
